Vin Santo di Montepulciano has very ancient origins. One version says that in 1348, at the Black Death time in Sienna , the Franciscan friars used to use this wine,already used
during the celebration of mass, to alleviate and cure the pain caused by this pandemic. Spread thus the belief that this wine was miraculous and acquired the epithet of “Saint”.
Vinsanto di Montepulciano is produced with Malvasia, Trebbiano and Grechetto grapes.
This last vine is commonly called a ” flea in the bottom” : “Pulce in culo”, as the grape has a small brown spot on the bottom.
Its aging is a minimum of 3 years in the barrel.
